03-23-2010 - Airport Unveils Noise Monitoring System
The Reno-Tahoe International Airport has unveiled a new high-tech Airport Noise and Operations Monitoring System (ANOMS) that tracks and records aircraft noise data.
The system involves 14 noise monitors installed in neighborhoods in the vicinity of the airport that track the level of noise produced by aircraft flying overhead. Information is collected in to a database, recorded and available online to the public via WebTrak. This user-friendly system features information such as aircraft type, aircraft altitude, which airline the aircraft belongs to and the origin and destination airports.
WebTrak's integrated noise complaint feature also allows residents who may be subjected to a high level of aircraft noise, to view a specific flight and submit a complaint online. That message is then relayed to airport staff who respond.
