02-13-2018 - Reno-Stead Airport’s 75th Anniversary Celebration Continues with Commemorative Brick Project

If Reno-Stead Airport has left a lasting impression on your life, carve that legacy in stone as part of the airport’s 75th Anniversary Celebration.

A commemorative brick project is underway that will allow pilots, air racers and air race fans, tenants, former servicemen and women based there, and anyone who treasures their Stead memories to buy bricks and place a message on them at the Reno-Stead terminal.

Reno-Stead Airport is celebrating its 75th anniversary through summer of 2018. A commemorative brick project there allows those associated with Stead to preserve their service and their families’ legacy. The bricks will be placed onsite at the Reno-Stead Airport Terminal at 4895 Texas Ave. in Reno, and will be open to the public.
“Reno-Stead has a colorful history intertwining military and aviation unlike any other place in Nevada.  It’s important to give those associated with Stead in any capacity a sense of place,” said Marily Mora, President and CEO of Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority.

In October 1942, Reno Army Air Base began operations at what was later the 192nd Fighter Squadron, Nevada Air National Guard, and finally named Stead Air Force Base. The base was home to the Strategic Air Command’s Survival School, Flying Training Wing (helicopters), and Reno Air Defense Sector. In 1966, Reno-Stead Airport began operating as a general aviation airport and is now under the direction of the Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority.

This brick project will commemorate the thousands who lived, worked or flew at Reno-Stead. It will also offer families a place to memorialize the service and memory of their loved ones.

Bricks start at $100 and include installation and your personalized message. Available in two sizes, you may also add logos to complete your memory. To order online, visit https://polarengraving.com/RenoTahoeAirportAuthority.

Alternately, checks and order forms are available by calling Reno-Stead Airport at 775.328.6570.
