04-21-2015 - Reno Airport Earns Top Awards for Restaurants, Retail & Amenities

Reno-Tahoe International Airport (RNO) received two distinguished awards last month from Airport Revenue News (ARN): Airport with the Best Concession Program Design and the Airport with the Best Amenities.

Airport Revenue News, a leading publication in the aviation industry, recognized top performers in airport concessions during their Awards Gala at the ARN 2015 Revenue Conference & Exhibition in San Diego, CA on March 8-11th. Nominations in the award categories are submitted by industry professionals in airports and concessions and RNO is pleased to have been selected by its peers.

The Gateway Construction Project completed in 2013, greatly enhanced the restaurant and retail options for the 3.4 million passengers each year who fly through RNO.  Reno-Tahoe International now offers enhanced concessions & amenities and an open design that's easy for passengers to navigate. And more than that, passengers know they've landed in Reno-Tahoe, thanks to a Tahoe-themed design and colors reminiscent of the region.

The improvements have not gone unnoticed by Reno-Tahoe International Airport passengers. In a recent Customer Satisfaction Survey, airport passengers gave RNO a 6.4 out of 7 overall satisfaction rating, with one of the top three marks for attractiveness and decor of the facility. In addition, customers gave high marks for the variety of places to eat, compared with options prior to construction. 

 “What makes this award sought after in our industry is that it validates the redesign of our terminal in the eyes of our peers,” said Marily Mora, Airport Authority President and CEO.  “We have already received great customer feedback on the new stores, restaurants and the re-design of the checkpoint; but the ARN award honors the work that went into creating a new airport experience for our customers.”

These awards from ARN help demonstrate the success of the Gateway Construction Project that adds a sense of place to the airport and offers passengers world-class shopping and dining. In addition, amenities such as the Wolf Pack Wall, Children’s Play Area, Native American display, DepARTures Art Gallery and the Nevada Mining Display, feature art and entertainment that help make for a pleasant travel experience.

“The goal was to give our passengers a sense of place as they arrived and departed our community,” continued Mora. “Our peers in the industry agreed that we achieved that.”
