06-27-2018 - A Perfect Ten: Sun Country Airlines announces new service at RNO

Sun Country Airlines became the 10th airline serving Reno-Tahoe International Airport (RNO) today as they announced new non-stop service between Reno and Portland, Ore. this November.

“We haven’t seen 10 airlines serve Reno in more than a decade, and adding Sun Country to Portland is an exciting announcement for our entire region,” says Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority President and CEO Marily Mora. “We’re very fortunate to be able to offer the opportunity for so many airlines to successfully operate here.

The new service will begin on November 16, just in time for the busy holiday season, departing Fridays and Mondays from Portland at 3:20 p.m. and arriving Reno at 4:40 p.m. The flight will then depart Reno at 5:40 p.m., arriving in Portland at 7:05 p.m. It’s anticipated the airline will fly a Boeing 737-800 aircraft. Introductory fares for the new flight start as low as $59.

Sun Country was started in 1982 by a small group of pilots and flight attendants in Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minn. The airline offers more than 50 destinations throughout the United States, Mexico, Costa Rica, and the Caribbean. They focus on delivering value to leisure travelers.

RNO enjoys continued passenger growth numbers, topping out at more than 4 million in 2017. In conjunction with dozens of regional partners including the Regional Air Service Corporation, Reno Sparks Convention and Visitors Authority, The Chamber and the airport’s air service development team, the Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority Board of Trustees are constantly working to bring new airlines and destinations to RNO.
