Security Screening is Now Located on the First Floor.

On Thursday, March 21, 2013 at 4:00 a.m., the Transportation Security Administration opens the brand new Centralized Security Checkpoint on the first floor of Reno-Tahoe International Airport.

The Checkpoint houses all new state-of-the-art security equipment including three AIT full body scanners, seven lanes and two private screening rooms to expedite the security screening process. With more than 70 security cameras located throughout the screening area and a central security station to oversee the operation, the new Security Checkpoint will offer a high level of safety and security for the 4 million passengers per year at Reno-Tahoe International Airport.

A Whole New Shopping & Dining Experience.

Once past security, passengers can now enjoy a whole new shopping and dining experience while they wait for their departing flight. The Gateway Project added 11,000 square feet to the terminal with beautiful new exterior glass windows that extend almost floor to ceiling to create a picture-perfect view of the airfield and mountains.

The hallway that connects the B and C Concourses is now a bright, open space, with 18-foot ceiling height, new shopping and dining.  Timber Ridge will be the main restaurant on the east side of the hall, and McDonald's returns to Reno-Tahoe International Airport on the east side of the hall as well.  The Paradies Shops will open four new stores along the west side including: a full-size Brighton Collectables, an outdoor clothing store called No Boundaries, a news and gift store from CNBC News, and In-Motion Entertainment, offering a wide array of technology gadets.

The new second floor will also include an art gallery, a children’s play area, a Native American display, new restrooms and more.

Exterior of the New Portion of the Terminal Taking Shape.

The new portion of the terminal that will house state-of-the-art security screening, new restaurants, retail and an art gallery, is starting to take shape. With 18-foot ceiling height, floor to ceiling windows, and views of the airfield and mountains, the new section of the airport will offer all passengers a first-class travel experience.

New Tile complete on C Concourse Landing.

The tile that began in the Ticketing Lobby, Baggage Claim, and the Main Lobby has now flowed upstream onto the C Concourse Landing.  This is just a sneak peek of what's to come once the entire second floor is open and operational.  You'll notice that The Peppermill Resort Spa Casino welcomes travelers to the Reno-Tahoe area with vibrant monitors depicting special events and conferences taking place in Reno-Tahoe.

New Meet & Greet area Opens.

In anticipation of the opening of the Gateway Project, a new 750 square foot Meet & Greet area opened directly below what is now the C Concourse escalators.  This new space allows for greeters to await their incoming passengers in a comfortable area.  The Meet & Greet area includes Reno-Tahoe photography by Vance Fox and creates that all important first impression as greeters welcome their family, friends, and business associates to the Reno-Tahoe area.  There are even several electrical outlets to make sure your phone is fully charged while waiting in the area.

Topping Out Ceremony Marks Completion of Exterior Framework.

The final piece of steel was erected on the outer shell of the new exterior. As is tradition in the ironworks industry, a ceremonial Topping Out was held as a giant crane lifted the last steel beam in to place that will help bring new shopping, dining and the best security screening in the west to the Reno-Tahoe International Airport.

New Carpeting on the B and C Concourses.

The Gateway Project is moving right along, to include the installation of new carpet on both the B and C Concourses.  Carpet installation will start at the east end of the C Concourse (C-10) and work towards the C-Security Checkpoint from 10:00 pm to 4:00 am through mid October.  Work on the B Concourse will then begin and is scheduled to be completed on November 30.

Connector Concourse Closed & New Elevator Route to the B Security Checkpoint in Effect

The hallway in between Concourses B and C on the second floor of the terminal has closed to make way for new Shopping and Dining.  Due to construction the elevator to and from the B Concourse has closed and a new elevator route is in place.  All departing passengers requiring elevator access to the B gates (wheelchairs, strollers, carts) should access the elevator near Peet's Coffee and follow signage guiding you to the security checkpoint.  All arriving passengers should watch for signage that will guide you to Baggage Claim and the Main Terminal Lobby.

Final Phase IV of the Newly Remodeled Baggage Claim Opens.

Gateway Construction is now complete in the Baggage Claim area and passengers can now access all five baggage carousels along with rental car companies, shuttle offices and other services.  The next time you travel through Reno-Tahoe International, be sure to visit this newly remodeled area that features stone wrapped columns, natural colored tile, and a terrazzo river pattern with an artistic touch of native Lahontan trout.

Mountain House Diner is Open.

New restaurant option is now open to serve customers on the first floor of the main terminal lobby.  Please note, the food court, that previously offered McDonald's, Brew Brothers, and Green's Healthy Choices has closed to make way for a new consolidated security checkpoint opening April 2013.  Other dining options are still available past security on both B and C Concourses.  Mountain House Diner is open from 4:30 am to 9:00 pm, seven days a week, offering a wide ranging sit down menu with a Tahoe-themed décor.

Phase III of the Newly Remodeled Baggage Claim Opens.

Passengers will now be able to claim baggage from all airlines in the newly remodeled baggage claim facility.  Carousel Number 1 will include Southwest and United baggage.  Carousel Number 2 will include Alaska, Southwest, and United baggage.  Carousel Numbers 3 and 4 will include American, Delta, and US Airways baggage.  All rental cars are also now located in the newly remodeled baggage claim facility.  All ground transportation is located through Door C.

Phase II of the Newly Remodeled Baggage Claim Opens.

Beginning Tuesday, March 6, passengers will be able to access the newly remodeled areas of baggage claim that includes Carousel Numbers 1 and 2, as well as all Rental Car companies.  Continental, Southwest, and United Airlines will now be utilizing Carousel Number 1.  Alaska and Southwest will now be utilizing Carousel Number 2.  Access for American, Delta, and US Airways baggage pick-up and ground transportation will continue to be from the outside, requiring passengers to exit out Baggage Claim Door A and re-enter through Door C.

Phase I of the Newly Remodeled Baggage Claim Opens.

Beginning Wednesday, January 25, passengers will be able to access the newly remodeled area of baggage claim that includes Carousel Number 1 and Rental Car companies Hertz, Avis, and Budget.  Alaska, Continental, and United Airlines will now be utilizing Carousel Number 1.  Access for all other airline baggage pick-up, other rental cars, and ground transportation will continue to be from the outside, requiring passengers to exit out the main lobby and re-enter through Door B.

Baggage Claim Restrooms Open

Just in time for busy Holiday Traffic, passengers receive a sneak peek of the newly remodeled Baggage Claim facility.  Restrooms are now once again available near the Main Terminal Lobby.  Men's, Women's, and a Family Restroom are located adjacent to The PGA TOUR Shop.

Construction Wall closes main entrance from Terminal Lobby to Baggage Claim.

Due to a construction wall, which closes the main entrance to Baggage Claim from the Terminal Lobby, passengers arriving on scheduled aircraft will be directed to enter Baggage Claim by continuing straight through the Terminal Lobby, going through the main entrance door, and turning right on to the sidewalk to Baggage Claim.  Baggage Claim may be accessed through Door A.

Passengers arriving to the airport from the Parking Structure or Car Rental Return area, will now be directed to enter Baggage Claim through Door A.
