Federal Government Shutdown

TSA Employees Impacted by DHS Funding Delay

While the federal government avoided a full shutdown, Congress has not yet approved funding for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), resulting in a funding lapse for DHS starting February 14, 2026. As a result, TSA employees have received emergency funding but a long term solution remains uncertain.

Reno-Tahoe International Airport (RNO) remains open and fully operational. TSA security checkpoint operations at RNO are running smoothly. However, passengers are encouraged to arrive early at RNO and other airports as impacts vary nationwide.

Supporting Federal Workers

During this time, federal TSA employees at RNO are receiving pay but there’s no guarantee on future paychecks until funding is approved by Congress.

The Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority (RTAA) and TSA leadership are monitoring the situation. When there are gaps in pay for federal employees, RTAA makes financial contributions to and partners with The Children’s Cabinet to deliver food and essential items directly to impacted federal employees working at RNO.

This support is also made possible by donations by members of the community, passengers and local businesses, which help support federal teams who continue ensuring the safety, security and reliability of air travel.

How to Donate

The Children’s Cabinet, a local nonprofit in Reno, Nevada, provides access to food resources and other essential supplies such as diapers. Donations can be earmarked through the donate page by typing “Federal Airport Employees” in the Notes/Requests section.

We thank the community members and businesses who joins us in standing by these federal workers when they need it most. And special thank you to our federal workers who keep working to keep operations smooth at RNO.
