Federal Government Shutdown

Reno-Tahoe International Airport (RNO) remains open and fully operational during the federal government shutdown. While some federal services may be impacted nationwide, essential operations at RNO will continue.

RELEASE – RNO Remains Operational
Travel Update

FAA Flight Reductions

The Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority (RTAA) is aware of the FAA’s directive for all airlines to reduce flight schedules by 10% beginning Friday, Nov. 7, with the reductions expected to continue through the duration of the federal government shutdown.

While these reductions are concentrated at the nation’s 40 largest airports, Reno-Tahoe International Airport (RNO) will experience some ripple effects, because many of our routes connect to those markets. We are closely coordinating with the FAA, TSA, CBP and our airline partners to minimize disruptions and maintain safe, secure and reliable operations.

Passengers are reminded to check their flight status directly with their airline before traveling to the airport, RNO remains open and operational and that it continues to be safe to fly. Airlines have shared that they are issuing refunds for affected flights.

Passengers

What You Need to Know

The safety, efficiency and reliability of RNO remain our top priorities. Our airport teams are closely coordinating with federal partners and industry leaders to minimize disruptions and keep travelers and airport employees informed.

We remain committed to delivering the level of service you love.

Nationwide impacts

The prolonged shutdown is placing additional strain on federal airport employees leading to longer security wait times and delays at other airports. While we have seen minimal impacts at RNO, we encourage passengers to:

  • Arrive at the airport early to allow extra time for screening
  • Show patience and kindness to the TSA and CBP officers assisting you during this time
  • Check flight status directly with your airline
  • Check real-time parking availability and construction updates on our website
  • Follow @renoairport on social media for timely updates

RNO airport operations not affected

The Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority (RTAA) is not a federal agency. Parking, concessions, rental cars and construction projects are operating as usual.

Federal partners remain on duty

TSA security screening, FAA air traffic control and U.S. Customs and Border Protection will continue to provide essential services at RNO.

Community

How to Support

We’re coming together to support the federal employees who continue to work without pay to keep our airport safe, secure and operational during the federal government shutdown. They may not be employed by RTAA, but they are an integral part of the Reno-Tahoe International Airport team.

These employees provide essential services to passengers every day and we recognize the financial strain a shutdown can create. The Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority is making financial contributions to The Children’s Cabinet and The Food Bank of Northern Nevada to help ease this time for affected employees.

We are asking community members who are also interested in supporting to donate to these organizations directly.

To the federal employees impacted, we encourage you to take advantage of these trusted community resources. Both organizations offer respectful, confidential support tailored to you and your family’s needs. We know this period brings turbulence, and we’re committed to helping you navigate toward calmer skies.
