RENO, Nev. (Oct. 9, 2025) – While the Reno-Tahoe International Airport (RNO) remains open and operational during the federal government shutdown, the Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority (RTAA) recognizes the impact on federal employees such as Transportation Security Administration (TSA), Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) staff who continue to work without pay.

“These federal employees are our neighbors, friends and colleagues. They live and work right here in northern Nevada,” said Daren Griffin, President/CEO of the Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority. “Even as they face uncertainty, they continue to show up every day to keep our airport safe, secure and operational. We invite our community to join us in showing support and together, we can make sure these essential workers know we all stand with them.”

To ensure support reaches those who need it most, the RTAA has partnered with The Children’s Cabinet and the Food Bank of Northern Nevada, two trusted local organizations with the infrastructure, staff and resources to provide direct assistance.

The Children’s Cabinet will assign a dedicated team member to assist federal workers from the airport, providing access to resources such as food, diapers and household items through its community market. Federal airport employees do not need to have children to receive assistance from The Children’s Cabinet.

The Food Bank of Northern Nevada will make food resources available to affected federal workers through its pantry program and a network of more than 150 partner agencies. They also offer an online tool that helps individuals locate nearby food distribution sites and view upcoming pantry events.

The RTAA encourages community members who wish to help to connect directly with these organizations. Both have established systems to receive donations, coordinate volunteers and provide ongoing support to those affected.

The Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority (RTAA) operates two of the most important economic drivers for our region–the Reno-Tahoe International Airport (RNO) and the Reno-Stead Airport (RTS). The RTAA is financially self-sufficient, meaning it is funded through airport operations and not state or local taxes. Eleven airlines serve RNO, flying to multiple nonstop destinations throughout the United States and Mexico. For more details, visit www.renoairport.com.
