The Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority Police Department (RTAAPD) is a full-service law enforcement agency that ensures the safety and security of the airport and has the same responsibility as a county or municipal police agency to enforce the laws of Nevada. Airport police also enforce Federal Regulations pertaining to airport operations and are committed to protecting airport tenants, employees, passengers and visitors.
Airport police protect the Airport Authority’s property and buildings, including both the Reno-Tahoe International Airport and Reno-Stead Airport terminal buildings, airfields, general aviation, tenant buildings, and surrounding industrial and undeveloped land.
All airport police officers are certified with the same statewide arrest powers as any other law enforcement agency in Nevada. Police officers undergo continuous training that includes airport specific problems such as aircraft accident investigations or bomb threats. In addition to enforcing state and local laws, airport police officers comply with FAA rules and guidelines.
Our airport police are internationally accredited through the Commission for Accreditation of Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). The policies are reviewed in depth by the commission and accepted if all guidelines are followed. By following CALEA standards, airport police have taken the challenge of maintaining a professional and accountable organization for public safety.

The Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority (RTAA) Police Department participates in the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) – Law Enforcement Agency (Tier 1) Accreditation process. As a part of this process, we provide an opportunity for any public feedback via the CALEA Portal which can be located here. There will be no response other than acknowledgement to submissions; however, the information will be considered in context to its relevancy to compliance with standards and the tenets of CALEA® Accreditation.
