05-22-2017 - Drone Test Site Demonstration at the Reno–Stead Airport

RENO, Nev. – Media is invited to attend a first-ever press event/demonstration of the drone test site at Read-Stead Airport Thursday, May 25, at 9 a.m. at the Stead Freedom Flight Terminal.

NASA, the Nevada Institute for Autonomous Systems and Reno-Stead Airport are hosting flight tests this week to blend drone traffic with the air traffic system utilized by manned aircraft. The Thursday event will include flight demonstrations inside the actual Federal Aviation Administration designated test site at Reno-Stead.

The day will begin at 9 a.m. with a description of the testing followed by a drive into the Test Site Area.  A media filming area has been set aside that will provide a great view of several flight demonstrations.

The event will last from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and media should be prepared for covering the event on very rough ground of sagebrush, dirt and rock. Please wear proper clothing and footwear for those conditions.

Please RSVP to Brian Kulpin at bkulpin@renoairport.com or 775-328-6401 if you plan to attend so we can plan transportation for our media partners to and from the site. Be aware that once news media is at the test site, you will need to stay there until the vehicle departs back to the terminal.

We hope you can join us.
