08-15-2014 - Airport Award Honors Gov. Brian Sandoval

Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval was presented with the Chairman’s Outstanding Service Award yesterday by the Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority.

Each year, at the end of their year-long term, the Chairman of the Airport Board of Trustees selects a recipient of the award based upon their dedication and support of the airport.  Former Chairman Adam Mayberry, of Sparks, chose Governor Sandoval in recognition of his steadfast support of both Reno-Tahoe International and Reno-Stead Airports.

“His commitment to economic development extends beyond our state and national borders,” Mayberry said. “Governor Sandoval has included the airport on trade missions to Asia to attract international investment in our community and extend the recognition of Nevada worldwide.”

Mayberry also cited the Governor’s support of Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) in Nevada and airport special events as reasons for the award.

After accepting the award, the Governor told the Airport Board he was “humbled” by the honor.

“I am a frequent flier and I can tell you that every time I come through the airport I am greeted with kindness; the terminal is spotless and it makes that all-important first impression on me and other travelers,” Gov. Sandoval said. “When people travel great distances, they should be welcomed properly and this airport does that extremely well.”
