09-16-2014 - More Airline Seats Offered During Busy Holiday Travel Season

An early holiday gift has come to Reno-Tahoe International Airport, with additional airline seats offered on many flights for the holidays.

Effective September 3, 2014, American Airlines is now flying a CRJ-900, twice a day in the Reno-Tahoe market, instead of the former CRJ-200 aircraft. This adds 26 seats per departure on flights to and from Los Angeles.  In addition, the morning LAX flight was retimed to 6:15 a.m. departure, to support the Reno-Tahoe business traveler’s needs, to arrive in L.A. by 8:00 a.m.

This month marks a year over year seat increase in the Los Angeles market for American of 2,544 additional seats, and 4,146 additional seats come October. This is a benefit of the U.S. Airways/American merger, because the new American can use the larger US Airways CRJ-900 on the route.

In addition to the new seats offered by American, Alaska Airlines will increase their winter schedule starting November 2, 2014, from four to five Seattle departures, resulting in one additional frequency compared to the 2013 season.

And United Airlines is adding daily holiday service to/from Houston, between December 18, 2014 and January 5, 2015 using an A320. This will greatly increase access for winter sport enthusiasts to the Reno-Tahoe ski region.

Also adding service for the holidays, Delta Air Lines will add daily non-stops between Reno and Minneapolis, beginning December 20, 2014, and ending January 4, 2015 using an A319.

“These increases in flights and seats are just in time for the busy holiday season and will improve access to the region’s many ski resorts and businesses,” said Marily Mora, President/CEO of the Airport Authority. “The airlines have recognized the local demand for increased service and now it is up to the community to support these flights.”
