The safety of passengers and aircrew is our number one priority.
Reno Fire Department (RFD) is specially trained and equipped to ensure the safety of the traveling public. The top priority of Station 90 is responding to aircraft incidents at the airport, as required by federal regulations. These firefighters ensure the safety of passengers that arrive and depart on 130 daily flights. They respond to emergencies that occur on airport property including basic life support, car accidents, pedestrian falls, and other situations that demand immediate medical attention. Firefighters are equipped to handle any emergency quickly and professionally.
Reno Fire Department
Through an Interlocal Agreement (ILA), the City of Reno assumed fire protection responsibilities from the Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority (RTAA), including Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) and the airport fire station. This transition enhances emergency response capabilities for the airport and surrounding community, ensuring compliance with FAA regulations while increasing resources, staffing, and efficiency.
Specialized Program
The Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) program is designed to respond fast, using specialized fire trucks equipped with water, foam, and dry chemical firefighting agents.
As a Part 139 certificated airport, Reno-Tahoe International Airport follows strict FAA safety regulations to keep travelers safe. These rules cover everything from ARFF response times to runway safety, fueling procedures, and even managing wildlife hazards. The RFD oversees ARFF operations, maintaining compliance with FAA standards and ensuring top-tier emergency readiness.
