Badge Renewal

The date on the front of the badge is the expiration date. Badges expire one minute after midnight on the last date of the month shown. It is the employee’s responsibility to renew his/her badge before it expires. Sponsoring companies receive a list of expiring badges each month so that those up for renewal may be reminded. A badge may be renewed any time during the month it is expiring or the month previous to its expiration. All employees renewing a badge must complete the training required for their badge’s access level.

All individuals renewing an RNO ID badge must:

1. Complete an RNO RENEWAL Application:  The Renewal Application can be found here.

2. Bring the completed application and identification to the Badging Office:  You are required to re-submit original, unexpired identification documents to prove identity and employment eligibility (see Acceptable Documents for a list) at the time you renew your badge. Please note that individuals born outside of the U.S. have specific identification requirements.

3. Get fingerprinted:  Your fingerprints may need to be electronically recaptured.  The fingerprint process takes approximately 10 minutes.

4. Undergo computer based training:  Individuals with access to secured areas and/or driving authority will undergo computer training.

If a badge has expired or been deactivated for a period of more than 30 days, another fingerprint criminal history records check and threat assessment must be conducted before the badge can be reissued.
