Phase II of the $46.5M Runway Reconstruction Project is scheduled for June - September 2020 and March - October 2021. Funded almost entirely by a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) grant to enhance airport operational safety, these needed improvements will prepare RNO for the rebound in passenger traffic post COVID-19.
Shutdown of RNO’s 11,000 ft. primary runway 16R-34L will ensue, but two other runways 16L-34R and the crosswind east/west runway 7-25 will be fully operational. No significant impact on operations is expected.
The project’s scope will include reconstruction of the concrete keel section, asphalt shoulders and blast pads, centerline/edge/MALSR light systems, wildlife mitigation, magnetic variation, and runway incursion mitigation at Taxiway A.
In total, the project will employ approximately 465 construction workers and local contractors/subcontractors from Granite Construction, Atkins-North America, and Wood Rodgers, Inc.
