06-24-2021 - Unprecedented Crowds Flying Through Reno-Tahoe International Airport this Weekend

Parking demand at critical levels

Who:       Reno-Tahoe International Airport (RNO) will potentially see 15,000+ passengers arriving and departing on peak days.

What:      With a record-tying number of destinations, parking lots will be at capacity and passengers will experience longer lines in ticketing and the security checkpoint.

Although overflow lots with an additional 400 spaces will be available when the garage and surface lot fill up, there is a possibility RNO will run out of space starting late Thursday, June 24. The airport is recommending travelers use an alternative means of transportation such as Uber, Lyft, taxi, public transportation or catch a ride with a friend or relative.

If driving to RNO is the only option, parking staff will be working during peak times directing traffic and handing out maps if the garage and surface lot fill up. As a rule, visitors should look to park first in the garage or surface lot, but if full, overflow signs will be clearly marked as guests enter the airport.

                  Other recommendations include:

  • Arrive at least two hours prior to the originally scheduled departure time
  • Expedite the security screening process by emptying pockets, removing shoes, electronic devices, jackets, food and liquids (not to exceed 3 oz.)
  • Download boarding passes at home and keep cell phones charged for airline alerts

When:    Thursday, June 24 – Monday, June 28

Why:      Pent up travel demand from the pandemic, and several new non-stop destinations have fueled the airport’s rapid recovery
