RELEASE – Reno-Tahoe International Airport Set for Smooth Travel as Federal Government Shutdown Ends

Print Page

RENO, Nev. (Nov. 13, 2025) – The federal government shutdown has officially ended, just in time for the busy Thanksgiving travel period at the Reno-Tahoe International Airport (RNO).

Flight cancellations and delays at RNO are not expected to increase as the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has frozen flight reduction directives at current levels and federal agencies begin resuming regular operations. Relief will not be immediate, and it will take time for national air travel schedules to fully stabilize.

During the shutdown, many federal employees at RNO worked without pay. In response, the Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority (RTAA) partnered with The Children’s Cabinet to deliver food and essential items directly to impacted federal employees working at RNO. This partnership was made possible by donations by members of the community, local businesses and the RTAA, which helped support federal teams who continued ensuring the safety, security and reliability of air travel. The RTAA thanks everyone who stood by these federal workers when they needed it most.

The RTAA is also grateful to Senators Catherine Cortez Masto and Jacky Rosen, and Congressman Mark Amodei for their votes to reopen the government. Nevada’s tourism and business economy depend on safe, efficient air travel and reopening the government was essential to restoring stability for travelers and the federal employees who keep our airports operating.

The RTAA remains committed to supporting federal partners as they transition back to normal operations and recover from the impacts of the shutdown. The airport will continue to coordinate closely with the FAA, TSA, CBP and airline partners to ensure a smooth and safe travel experience ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday.

Travelers are encouraged to check flight status directly with their airlines, arrive early and plan ahead for a busy holiday travel season. Real-time flight, parking and construction information is available at www.renoairport.com

The Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority (RTAA) operates two of the most important economic drivers for our region–the Reno-Tahoe International Airport (RNO) and the Reno-Stead Airport (RTS). The RTAA is financially self-sufficient, meaning it is funded through airport operations and not state or local taxes. Eleven airlines serve RNO, flying to multiple nonstop destinations throughout the United States and Mexico. For more details, visit www.renoairport.com.
