Volunteers are needed for a simulation event Oct. 14 to test a new temporary outdoor boarding process.
RENO, Nev. (Sept. 17, 2026) – As construction continues on the $1+ billion MoreRNO Infrastructure Program at the Reno-Tahoe International Airport (RNO), Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority (RTAA) is preparing to introduce temporary ground boarding operations on the B and C concourses.
The new ground boarding gates will allow the airport to maintain safe and efficient airline operations while construction progresses on the New Gen A&B Concourses, a major component of the MoreRNO program.
Beginning Thursday, Oct. 22, passengers departing from select gates on the B and C concourses may board aircraft using three temporary ground boarding gates, which will route passengers outdoors before boarding their flight. Passengers will be required to follow airport signage and instructions from airline and airport staff. The temporary ground boarding gates are expected to remain in use for over 2 years as construction advances on the New Gen A&B concourses.
Wednesday, Oct. 14: Volunteers Needed for Ground Boarding Simulation Event
The RTAA will conduct a gate simulation event from 7-10 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 14, to test the temporary outdoor ground boarding operation from start to finish. RTAA is seeking volunteers to participate in the simulation, and provide their feedback on their experience to help the airport and airlines make process improvements. Volunteers can apply to participate in the simulation event online here. Selected volunteers will be notified directly with additional paperwork to complete and will be required to bring a REAL ID, passport or another valid form of identification to participate.
The simulation will test how the temporary gates function for a variety of passengers and scenarios, including passengers who use wheelchairs or require other ADA accommodations, passengers traveling with children in strollers and those who travel with service animals. The goal is to identify and address any issues with the boarding process, wayfinding, accessibility and overall passenger experience before the ground boarding gates open for regular use.
New Concourses Are Arriving in 2028 and 2029
The New Gen A&B Concourses are part of MoreRNO’s long-term effort to modernize and expand RNO’s facilities. The temporary ground boarding operation represents another significant milestone in the MoreRNO program as construction progresses and RNO transitions to the next phase of its airport transformation. The project will replace the airport’s existing B and C concourse gates with new, modern facilities while increasing operational flexibility and improving the passenger experience. New Gen A is expected to be completed in 2028 and New Gen B is expected to be completed in 2029.
