Starting May 7, 2025, the federal government will require a REAL ID-compliant driver’s license (or other TSA-approved identification like a U.S. passport) for all travelers passing through airport security for domestic flights.

Travelers without a REAL ID or passport will not be permitted to pass through TSA checkpoints or board their flight.

If you’re a local traveler and still need to upgrade your ID:

Now is the time to check your ID and make your appointment.

Now Approaching

Before airport arrival, know if your items are considered personal or carry-on:

We’ve all been there, standing at the gate wondering, “Does my backpack count as a personal item or a carry-on?” The answer: It depends on the size and the airline.

General rule of thumb:

  • Personal item: Small backpack, purse, laptop bag and fits under the seat
  • Carry-on: Larger backpacks, duffel bags, and small suitcases and fits in the overhead bin and meets the airline’s size limits
