The Airport Encourages Travelers to Plan Ahead with Helpful Guidance

RENO, Nev. (Aug. 4, 2025) – Starting today, travelers and airport visitors can expect to see changes begin along the Loop Road and more visible signs of progress as crews get to work on two major projects that will transform the airport experience for decades to come. These changes support the next phase of the MoreRNO Infrastructure Program, marking an exciting next chapter in the largest modernization effort in the airport’s history.

What Travelers Should Know

On Aug. 4, changes along the airport Loop Road will begin to accommodate the construction of a new Central Utility Plant and Police and Airport Authority Headquarters building.

Impacts will include:

  • Lane closures along the airport Loop Road
  • Overflow parking lot closures and relocation
  • Equipment and material mobilization
  • Adjustment to overflow parking walking path

Travelers and airport visitors are encouraged to:

  • Slow down in construction zones, watch for construction crews and follow signage
  • Allow extra time to navigate overflow parking

 About the MoreRNO Projects

Central Utility Plant (CUP)

The first project to break ground in this phase of MoreRNO is the new Central Utility Plant, a critical enabling project that will power future facilities including the upcoming Police and Airport Authority Headquarters and the new concourses. The CUP will be located in what is currently an overflow parking lot, the Blue Lot.

The CUP will feature:

  • 20% greater energy efficiency than building code requirements
  • 77% less water consumption than conventional systems
  • Improved climate resiliency and indoor air quality
  • Reduced greenhouse gas emissions

Police and Airport Authority Headquarters (HQ)

Later in September, travelers will see work begin for this building in the Yellow Lot, another parking area used for overflow purposes. The Yellow Lot will close on Aug. 22 for Burning Man activity staging and will remain closed for the HQ building site preparations.

This 62,000-square-foot facility will:

  • Improve response times for airport police
  • Consolidate RTAA administrative operations under one roof
  • Release critical airport terminal space to tenants whose day-to-day operations are best done in-terminal
  • Support safety, efficiency and long-term operational growth

The HQ project is expected to break ground in mid-September and be complete in 2027.

The Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority (RTAA) operates two of the most important economic drivers for our region–the Reno-Tahoe International Airport (RNO) and the Reno-Stead Airport (RTS). The RTAA is financially self-sufficient, meaning it is funded through airport operations and not state or local taxes. The RTAA is transforming the travel experience at RNO with a multi-year infrastructure program, MoreRNO. This construction program—the largest ever at the airport—will bring passengers more of what they love. Learn more at www.MoreRNO.com.
