RNO is Open and Operational

Community Support Effort Launches for Federal Workers

While RNO remains open and operational during the federal government shutdown, the Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority (RTAA) recognizes the impact on federal employees such as Transportation Security Administration (TSA), Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) staff who continue to work without pay.

To ensure support reaches those who need it most, the airport has partnered with The Children’s Cabinet and the Food Bank of Northern Nevada, two trusted local organizations with the infrastructure, staff and resources to provide direct assistance.

Learn more about the resources available and how to get involved by reading the latest press release below.

Travel Tip #1: Book Your Flight Early

According to Google’s 2025’s travel trends —which compiles four years worth of Google Flights data—these are the most affordable times to book for winter holidays:

  • Thanksgiving: throughout October
  • Christmas: Mid-October through early November
  • New Year’s: Mid-October through mid-November

Travel Tip #2: Choose Your Dates Wisely

You may have heard that you’ll save money by purchasing your flight on a particular day. That’s actually a myth. Instead of it being about when you buy, consider when you fly.

Travelers who take off Monday through Wednesday can save up to 13% compared to weekend trips.

Bonus: Midweek flights mean fewer crowds and a smoother start to your holiday getaway.

Giving a Lift Pays Off… Literally

A little kindness goes a long way—even if it’s just dropping off your friend or family member at the airport. In Nov., our Curbside Kindness Team will be back, surprising drivers with gift cards* as a small “thank you.” Whether you’re dropping someone off or picking them up, every ride helps make travel at RNO smoother.

Please note: Gift cards are not guaranteed; limited while supplies last.
