(Reno, NV) – The holiday season truly took-off at Reno-Tahoe International in December as RNO recorded the busiest cargo month in the airport’s history.

The airport handled 15,776,073 pounds of cargo in December, 2014. This was a 12.7 percent increase over the cargo tonnage handled in December, 2013. Internet shopping for holiday gifts was an obvious factor in the record amount of cargo.

Calendar year 2014 was also RNO’s best overall year for cargo for the past seven years with 129,089,232 pounds of cargo handled at the airport.  It was also the second best year for cargo ever recorded at RNO and just 160,000 pounds shy of the record for best year.

“These impressive cargo numbers are an indication of the economic growth in our region and the important role the airport plays in economic diversification,” Marily Mora, President/CEO of Reno-Tahoe International Airport, said. “Our December numbers were amazing and we are honored to play such an important role in helping fill so many holiday wish lists.”

Cargo carriers serving RNO include FedEx, UPS and DHL. For more information, visit www.renoairport.com.
